The Glasson smartphone, a product of the Vestel ID Team's years of experience in the consumer electronics market, is designed to simplify life. At its core, the design embodies casual simplicity, mirroring the modern world's ideal representation. The device caters to user needs, keeping up with mobile device trends, and is the result of a collaborative process among designers, UI designers, and engineers. This collaboration has resulted in a harmonious blend of sleek design and innovative material use, offering an ergonomic user experience.
One of the key realization technologies used in the Glasson smartphone is NCVM plating technology. This technology allows for multiple custom cosmetic options using a single back cover molding. It also enables the application of colored chrome effects, patterns, and both special and traditional textures on the back cover.
With dimensions of 142x71x9mm, the Glasson smartphone is compact and easy to handle. It includes all the advantages of Google's Android OS and offers unique applications resulting from the brand's consumer-based approach. The smartphone caters to all technological requirements of the market, featuring a 5.0-inch touchscreen display, an 8MP back camera, and connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, 3G, and GPS.
The Glasson smartphone project began in August 2012 in R&D Manisa and was completed in February 2014 in Vestel City, Manisa. The design was exhibited at the World Mobile Congress in February 2014. The technical specifications of the smartphone were determined by extensive research on consumer needs in the domestic market and global consumer trends. The design line was identified using mobile market research, focus group research, surveys, trend analyses, and benchmarks. This extensive market data also informed user-based research, such as anthropometric and ergonomic studies.
The design of the Glasson smartphone presented several challenges. The goal was to create a mid-range design line that met consumer needs and reflected the brand's mobile device ideology and identity. Achieving thinness in depth was a significant manufacturing challenge, overcome by a strong collaboration between engineering and design. The illusion effect of the back covers of LED televisions was applied to the design, making the whole design appear slimmer and more familiar to the mid-range market.
The Glasson smartphone's unique design and innovative features have not gone unnoticed. In 2014, it was awarded the Platinum A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award, recognizing world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. This award is a testament to the Vestel ID Team's commitment to advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
